GODSPELL

By JOHN SCHUBECK

Very, very seldom do I really get turned on by things on stage or on the screen …You see so much bad material, you really become jaded... but objectively, as a critic, you sometimes have to rise above your indifference. and say that something is good, professional, worth seeing.

Such was not the case tonight. .Went to see a thing called “Godspell,” and I tell you, not since It Follies° has a musical affected me so. Utterly captivating. . a. genius work that, I think, really has no comparison. Ten performers. . . everyone a star. . .16 songs. . , all wonderful.

I must single out these people. . .Joanne Jonas, Stephen Nathan as actors.. .Stephen Schwartz, composer and John Michael Tebelak, creator and director, for making the gospel, according to St. Matthew such a smash.
